Tafseer :

Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing , and there is a covering over their eyes , and for them is a great punishment  (7).

Allah Has Sealed Their Hearts :

In this surah Allah Subhan Wa talah addresses a group of people who, despite receiving clear signs and evidence of Allah’s existence and His message, persistently deny and reject the truth. As a consequence of their continuous denial and arrogance, Allah seals their hearts, meaning their hearts become hardened and closed to accepting guidance. Their ability to perceive the truth, both spiritually and intellectually, becomes obstructed. They become deaf to the divine message and are unable to see the light of faith.

This sealing is not an arbitrary punishment but rather a result of their own choices and actions. When individuals persistently turn away from the signs and guidance provided by Allah, their hearts become desensitized, making it increasingly difficult for them to recognize and embrace the truth.

The verse concludes by warning about the severe punishment that awaits those who deliberately reject the truth and choose to remain in a state of disbelief.

This punishment is a consequence of their rejection of divine guidance and their persistence in following their own desires and whims, despite knowing the truth deep down in their hearts.

Mercy of Allah Almighty :

It is essential to remember that Allah’s mercy and forgiveness are boundless, and anyone who sincerely turns back to Him in repentance can find their hearts opened and guided once again. However, for those who consciously choose to persist in disbelief, the sealing of their hearts becomes a just consequence of their actions.

Islamic point of view :

In Islamic belief, Allah’s punishment for those who are unable to listen to or accept the truth varies based on their circumstances and intentions. It is important to understand that Allah is just and merciful, and His punishment is not arbitrary or unjust. Here are some points to consider regarding Allah’s punishment for those who cannot perceive or accept the truth .

Differentiated Accountability:

Allah judges people according to their knowledge, understanding, and abilities. Those who are genuinely unable to comprehend the truth due to factors beyond their control will not be held accountable for their inability. Allah is fair and just, and He considers individual circumstances before passing judgment.

Responsibility for Seeking Knowledge:

In Islam, seeking knowledge and guidance is a crucial aspect of faith. Those who have access to the truth but consciously choose to ignore or reject it without any valid reason may face accountability for their willful ignorance or arrogance.

Divine Guidance and Warnings:

Allah, in His mercy, sends prophets, messengers, and scriptures to guide humanity. Those who are unable to access these sources of guidance will be judged based on their sincere intentions and the moral compass provided to them by Allah.

Severity of Arrogance and Denial:

The Quran often mentions the consequences of arrogance, denial, and disbelief. Those who arrogantly turn away from the truth despite understanding it may face severe consequences, both in this life and the hereafter.

Spiritual and Psychological Consequences:

Being unable to perceive or accept the truth can have significant spiritual and psychological consequences. It may lead to a sense of emptiness, purposelessness, and a lack of contentment in life.

Chance for Repentance:

Allah is ever-forgiving and merciful. Even for those who have ignored or rejected the truth in the past, there is always a chance for repentance and turning back to Allah. Sincere repentance, seeking forgiveness, and making amends can lead to redemption.

Hellfire for Stubborn Disbelievers:

For those who stubbornly and persistently deny the truth, consciously rejecting the divine guidance despite understanding it, there is a warning of severe punishment in the Hereafter. Hellfire is described in the Quran as the abode of punishment for those who disbelieve and reject the truth.

Summery :

It is crucial to approach the concept of Allah’s punishment with a balanced understanding of His attributes of justice, mercy, and wisdom. While Allah’s punishment is real, His forgiveness and compassion are also limitless for those who sincerely seek Him and the truth.

The emphasis in Islam is on seeking knowledge, maintaining an open heart and mind, and humbly submitting to Allah’s guidance. By doing so, one can hope for Allah’s mercy and protection from the pitfalls of disbelief and ignorance.
